Down the road
This is down the road from our land. Our neighbor has a mess of logs on his land that were cut down to make a road last year. Fortunately for us, he doesn't mind if we take them. It's rather flat and spacious here, so I try to hew here.
We lay out a 16cm levelled square at each end, snap a chalkline from corner to corner, cut down to the lines with a chainsaw and hew with a light axe and finish with a drawknife and a plane. Then I move them one by one up the road on our truck.
The site has a blue tarp strung up over it now to keep the rain off the posts, beams and infill walls shown here. We're hoping to put in the graywater system and bases for the bathtub, toilet and stove as soon as the beams are fastened to the foundation.
